Episode 3A: Sir Ed-a-Lot

book-o-scams:

Something I just noticed on my DVD is that the theme song seems to be more pale for this episode… Can’t imagine why.

This is the start of season 1 episodes that I feel have a noticeably different quality than the first 4.  They seem a lot more on model and kind of ugly and dull because of it, but the animation is actually really good.

Sir Ed-a-Lot is named in reference to Sir Lancelot, a knight of the round table in Arthurian legend, a name which is frequently parodied in cartoons.  This is appropriate to the episode, because the Eds pretend to be servants to Sarah and Jimmy’s pretend royalty.

The title card portrays (presumably) Sarah’s arm offering some green tea in a broken tea set to her toys.  The damaged toys and tea all over the place represent the tantrums she throws and messes she makes as the Eds try to keep her entertained and pleased with stereotypically childish and girly games.

It’s been a bad weekend for my family, so I don’t know how much time I’ll have for babysitting the Eds this week, but I’ll get on that as soon as possible.  In the mean time, have another episode analysis!

Episode 2B: Over Your Ed

book-o-scams:

Over Your Ed is named after the phrase “Over Your Head.”  This is fitting enough, since the Eds kind of go over the kids’ heads by making them believe Ed is cool.  I’m surprised and kind of impressed that they didn’t go for a more relevant reference phrase, like “My Fair Lady” (but that works out for them, because in season 3 there IS an episode called My Fair Ed)

I think this title card is very pretty.  It would look great in a children’s storybook.  It is not directly related to the episode, but I suppose the star is related to Ed’s rise to stardom amongst his neighbors, and the location looks vaguely like general Peach Creek locations.  Mostly this title card reflects the actual title, with the star obviously going over the heads of whoever lives in those houses.
